Billy and the accident

I was a “gospel star” said Billy sweeping his hands in the air. It was apparent however that he did not consider it a very big deal. What was a big deal were the events of one dark day in Swaziland when Billy and his family were almost killed in a car accident. Billy was hurt, his son Winston sustained serious neck injuries, but is was his darling daughter Chantel who came off worst. Her neck and back injuries had left Chantel in a coma.

Billy immediately learned a great spiritual truth, “ Dit help nie 'n kind van die Here het net toegang tot die woord van God nie. Die woord moet in sy hart wees.” The passage that came to mind was John 10 where Jesus speaks about the thief who came to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus came to give us life in abundance. Billy realised that he needed to just accept Gods word and not try to analyze it.

Chantel recovered fully even though the doctors said that she never would. Wilton too recovered fully and was able to participate in any sport, just like any other child of his age.

Billy did play his part in his daughters rehabilitation, spending hours at her bedside, playing songs through a Walkman for her while she was still in a coma. He jumped in and lifted her in order to help her to walk again. He would not tolerate anyone treating her like an invalid.

Now, years later, Billy is sure of one great truth, Jesus came to give life in abundance to all His children.
